For this member spotlight, we are honoring a Foundry member who has seen tremendous gains for all the hard workout he has put into his training. Nse Ekpenyong started with us in March 2013 and has been committed athlete and formidable community member since he started. His dedication has really paid off; read below to find out more about what Nse has accomplished at The Foundry!
The Foundry: Why did you start training at The Foundry? What were some of your first impressions?
Nse Ekpenyong: My first exposure happened earlier this year watching a replay of the 2011 CrossFit Games on ESPN with my fiancé. I was first inspired by how FIT the athletes were, and also by their strength, speed and endurance during the competition. I knew at that moment, THAT was the workout I wanted to do. I had also not worked out for several years and the timing of finding the Foundry couldn’t have been better!
As for my first impressions, first and foremost, I liked the fact Justin took the time to speak to my fiancé and I at length about what CrossFit is. We then did an intro workout with Brad and my impression then was INTENSE and INTIMIDATING but also FUN at the same time. I knew the journey wouldn’t be easy but I was ready for the challenge.
F: What have been some of your biggest accomplishments in CrossFit? What are some goals you hope to achieve?
NE: Some of my biggest accomplishments so far have been with Double Unders (DUs) and Hand Stand Push-ups. (HSPUs). I couldn’t do either one of those movements when I first started but can now do several in a row. Some goals I hope to achieve are being able to do more than one muscle up AND lifting heavier weights
F: How do you make regularly attending CrossFit classes work in your schedule?
NE: I wake up at 6 AM during the week to prep for the 7 AM class (shoutout to my 7 AM CrossFitters!) which works best with my schedule.
F: What is something we don’t know about you?
NE: I’m Nigerian, very COMPETITIVE and a General Dentist (shameless plug!)
Thanks for sharing Nse! We can’t wait to see what else you will accompish. Be sure to congratulate Nse and contiune to WoD hard!
